GRANDMOTHER’S BOX Episode 6 – Elisha Kehinde Fagbemi
“The mistress is coming. She is coming for you all. She’ll make a surprise appearance and show you all he•ll”, my sister’s zom•bied head kept on ranting amidst her hysterical laughter. “Why did grandma murd•ered his own husband and grandchild. Is she e•vil to that extent”, I whispered the question to myself. I shoved Judith’s he•ad back into the box and I was surprised to see that my grandfather’s head has already shifted back into the box. There was now three more boxes to open. I ignored the three boxes and I ran to Justin to calm him down. He was already dest•roying everything he could lay his hands on in the room. I reminded him that Jimmy has passed out again and we have to revive him. Justin calmed down a bit and when he heard that Jimmy has passed out again and he ran to his side. “Get another bowl of water. We must not lose Jimmy too”, Justin screamed. Our attentions was no longer on the boxes or the mistress. It was all on Jimmy. I grabbed the bowl that I used earlier and I zoomed off to Grandma’s bathroom. I got to the bathroom and scooped enough water into the bowl. I was about to exit the bathroom when I saw the bl•ood like liquid again, and this time, it was dripping down on the floor from the ceiling. Having enveloped in extreme perturbedness, I looked up too see what it was and the object producing the b•lood turned out to be my sister’s maimed body. The sight alone was h•orrific, creepy and terrifying. My tongue literally stuck to my throat and I couldn’t scream. I ran out of the bathroom as fast as I could and I poured the water on Jimmy’s head. I didn’t tell Justin what I saw in the bathroom. I just joined him in trying to wake Jimmy up, and he woke up few minutes later. “What happened. Did I pass out again. Where is Judith?”, Jimmy asked in frenzy immediately he woke up. “Let’s just get out of here first”, Justin screamed as he carried Jimmy off the ground. The whole place turned to a red zone for us immediately and all I could sense was our impending de•ath.
We abandoned the boxes on the floor, including Judith’s own and we started trying to find our way out of the house. We exited the room and we ran to the living room, to our surprise, the main exit door in the living room has surprisingly and mysteriously disappeared. Coupled with the ab•normalities and paranormalness of the house, we still couldn’t see Grandma or sons her presence. Now, we are in much deeper trouble.
There was no longer an exit door for us to escape. “I think I saw one small door in Grandma’s room earlier. It’s beside the bathroom’s door”, Jimmy said shivering. “Are you sure about this”, Justin asked him again for confirmation. “Yeah, I am sure. It wasn’t a very big door though”, Jimmy said again. We started our race back to the room and we got there just in time. We got to the room just in time and the three of us rushed to the door in an attempt to either open it or knock it down if it refuse to open. While we were still trying to force the door open, Jimmy tapped us and pointed his hand to some object that was under the bed. We turned our head to the direction at the same time and the object turned out to be a phone. Our face lightened up in delight.
The phone seems to stand as a symbol of hope for us because we can contact our parent with the phone. Justin grabbed the phone, and luckily for us, it was on and working. He dialed our parent’s number and that was the exact time we started hearing some mournful cry. At first, we thought the cry was coming from the phone. We realised later that it was coming from the direction of the boxes we abandoned earlier. “Who could be crying there”, I whispered to myself.
Since I was not afraid of the content of the boxes, I went head to open two out of the three remaining boxes I was yet to open. Immediately I opened the boxes, the mournful cry turned to an hysterical wild laugh.
The two heads in the boxes were laughing so hard like a lun•atic, and that was when I grabbed the heads to take a better look. It turned out to be the heads of our parent.
GRANDMOTHER’S BOX
Episode 7
I was shocked beyond comprehension and expression.
The heads stopped laughing immediately I discovered their identity.
The phone dropped out of Justin’s hand immediately he saw the heads of our parent. Afterall, there was no one else to call for help now.
“When did Grandma ki•ll our parent. Didn’t they travel to Russia”,? I asked myself while trying hard to keep the flood of tears that was threatening to fall out of my eyes at bay. “Who can we run to now. Are we just going to die like Judith, Mum and Dad. Why did we even come to this village”, I whispered to myself while ste•aling a pitiful glance at my brothers.
It seemed like the more I opened the boxes, the more our chance of survival gets slimmer because we tend to get into a more crucial situation whenever I open one. I was now more scared to go near the last box.
Justin that was claiming a hard guy earlier is now crying so hard like a con•victed crim•inal that was sentenced to de•ath, literally, we’ve been sentenced to our own de•ath too even though we were not crim•inals.
Jimmy was already too tired of fainting, so he joined Justin in crying while I just kept on gawking at the heads of our parent.
I knew at that instant that we can never defeat Grandma with our physical ability. It’s either she ki•ll us, or God save us.
I didn’t attempt to stop my brothers from crying. I just sat quietly on the floor, waiting for death to wipe the remainder of our family.
“I don’t want to d•ie!!, I don’t want to d•ie”, Jimmy said amidst sob. He was the weakest among us and every new thing we get to discover usually triggers him. “I don’t want to d•ie”, Jimmy kept on chanting silently.
“We will not d•ie”, Justin replied him bravely. “We are yet to open this small door. Let’s open it first and check if there’s an escape route at the other side. Grandma might even probably be there too”, he concluded.
“You might be right. Let’s break this door down then”, I replied him. And with that, we got to work.
Since there was no paranormal interference, we successfully struggled with the door for like 30 minutes without achieving anything tangible. Despite the fact that it was small, it didn’t even budge or flinch. It was as if we were trying to open the gates the biblical Samson carried on his back.
“Is this a normal door like this”, Jimmy asked with his back to the door.
“It’ll be a normal door now. Let’s find anything metal we can use to break it down. I saw some in the kitchen yesterday, let’s go and get them”, Justin said.
We went to the kitchen together and we started looking for tools we can use to break the door down.
While we were still searching fot the tools we can use to open the door, Jimmy made a very loud scream that startled us.
“What’s it?”.
“I just saw a little girl walk through the walls now”, Jimmy screamed while panicking.
“Are you sure it was a little girl?. Or was it Grandma”, Justin asked him again.
“It wasn’t Grandma. It was a little girl. I’m very sure of that”, he repeated again.
The little girl he mentioned put more fears in us and we doubled the effort we used in searching for the tools. We found the tools bag few minutes later and we started running back to the room.
We rushed into the room and immediately we stepped into the room, the door that of the room that I knocked down earlier jammed shut. We started hearing cries of many people immediately the door got shut.
“Bring the hammer”, Justin screamed at me.
I dipped my hand into the bag I was carrying and I stretched the hammer to him.
He landed a very severe hit on the door immediately his hand touched the hammer.
Surprisingly, instead of the door to feel the impact, the hammer flew off his hand and went straight into the last box that I was yet to open.
“Get me the hammer”, Justin screamed at me again.
“I can’t. It’s in the last box and I don’t want to open it”, I screamed back in reply.
“Just open it and take the hammer. The cries is becoming louder. We might di•e in the next few minutes”, Justin screamed again.
The cries was truly becoming louder and that gave me no choice. I went straight to the box and opened it. Instead of taking the hammer I came for, I took a long stare at the content of box and I could not help but scream when I saw the content of the box.
I didn’t even scream when I saw my sister’s head.
My brothers asked me in unison about what the content of the box was and I could not even open my mouth to reply them, for lying in the box was our Grandmother’s head, the person whom we thought is the author of the whole saga.
