The Complete Assassin Episode 10
written by kayemjay
Rebekah turned in her bed groaning softly. She tossed and turned, feeling slightly uncomfortable. Without opening her eyes, she felt the other side of the bed behind her, trying to find out why there was no contact between her and the man who lay with her the night before. She stretched her hand across the king size bed as far as it could go, but still there was no contact. She opened her eyes and turned. The bed was empty. She took her wristwatch by the bedside table and looked at it.
4:38am.
Did he leave her hanging again? Why the heck did he always treat her like she was some sort of rag, toy to be used and discarded at will? She was still pondering these things when she heard movement in the kitchen.
“Steve?” she called out.
There was no reply.
“Steven. Are you there?” Rebekah called out again, climbing out of the bed.
Still no response.
She walked to the door of the bedroom and listened. She could smell the gas from the burners and could hear the sound of water rushing from the kitchen tap. It had to be Steven. However, her years in Special Forces, and her training with Shadow Organisation had taught her never to let her guard down. She looked round the room and saw the high heel shoes she had worn the previous day. She took one of the pair and walked stealthily and barefoot to the kitchen. Just to be sure, she called again,
“Steven? I know it’s you. Stop playing games. It is no longer funny. I have a gun.” She threatened.
Still no answer.
She was beginning to get strange vibes. Steven had never been this playful with her. He was always business like. With him it was either sex, missions, chit chat and occasional out of the blue surprises. However, Steven was never one to show acts of romance or symptoms of being in love. Something was definitely not right.
She gripped the shoe tighter, brandishing the heel as a deadly weapon. As she walked into the kitchen, she immediately looked left and right, alert as an eagle and ready to strike. She saw no one. The tap was still running and the kitchen smelled of coffee. There was someone else in the house. That she was sure of. She walked slowly to the tap and turned it off. Still holding the shoe, she walked to the gas burner and bent to turn off the regulator.
As she made to turn back away from the kitchen, she was ambushed.
“Boooooo!” Steven shouted.
She almost fell from fright. It did not take her long to regain her composure.
“What in the world was that for?” she said, with a very annoyed look on her face.
“Did I scare you?” Steven teased.
“Of course not. Why would your little prank scare me?” Rebekah countered.
“Awww. My sweet little pumpkin. Come here.” Steven said, opening his arms wide for an embrace.
Rebekah closed her left cheek and left shoulder together, a playful, childish sign that she did not want an embrace.
“Come on pumpkin. My hands are hurting.” Steven pleaded.
“Okay, okay. But don’t do it again oh.” She warned.
“I promise baby.” Steven said and winked.
Rebekah jumped into the embrace and locked lips with him. She loved Steven so much and would do anything to have him make some sort of commitment to her. But she was bidding her time, waiting, hoping. The chemistry was there. She knew without any doubt that when the time was right all will be in place.
They disengaged from the kiss and Steven smelled her hair. Then bringing his lips to her ears, he said
“I thought you said you were not scared. Why are you telling me not to do it anymore? Fear fear.” He teased and ran away from her into the bedroom. She ran after him to meet a tray of coffee, scrambled eggs and fried bread on the bed.
“Aren’t you a darling?” She said impressed by what she saw and settling in to eat.
“I am baby. For now.” Steven replied.
Laughing hard, both of them enjoyed the meal and had another sweaty session before finally cuddling into the late hours of the morning.

There was a knock on the door.
“Oh Doctor Shumwar. Come in please. That did not take long. Please sit.” Detective Samson said as a bald headed man, in his early fifties walked into a room that the detective had turned into a temporary office.
“Thank you detective. You sounded like you wanted it urgently. So I had to expedite the process.” Dr. Shumwar replied.
“Oh yes, yes. As a matter of fact I am already hours behind schedule. My superiors want this case wrapped up in no time and as you can deduce, I cannot afford the luxury of protocol. Now, what do you have for me, doctor?” Detective Samson asked.
“The subject died from asphyxia.” The doctor said.
“Asphy-what?”
“Asphyxia, extreme loss of oxygen. We found huge deposits of hydrogen cyanide in his pulmonary artery and it could not have been self-inflicted due to the sharp pang of irritation gotten at first impact.” The doctor said.
“Could you please speak English doctor?” The detective pleaded.
“Okay.” Dr. Shumwar said removing his glasses and continued.
“The victim inhaled a huge amount of a chemical that causes suffocation. The nature of this chemical is such that a slight sniff is harmless but can make your head spin for a few minutes, so it’s impossible to self-inflict, just as it is impossible to commit suicide by holding your nose. So someone must have forced the chemical on the victim.” The doctor explained.
“Please continue.” The detective said.
“There is a slight bruise on his left chin. This is a result from impact hard enough to knock the victim off balance and soft enough not to draw blood. The area around his neck is also darker, a result of lack of blood flow. It could have been there before tonight or afflicted during his death. It would take more time for us to give you specific and accurate details on that.” The doctor finished.
“Hmmmm…” The detective said, studying his notes and rubbing his moustache.
“Doctor, come with me.” Detective Samson ordered.
They walked together to the scene of the murder and the detective stopped at the spot where the victim once lay.
“Doctor, in your best opinion, in what form would the forced hydrogen cyanide be administered?” The detective asked.
“A piece of cloth possibly a handkerchief. It could also be administered by using…” The doctor started but was cut off.
“Thank you doctor. A handkerchief! Perfect.”
The detective began a simulation, pacing the room and thinking of how best the victim had been taken out.
“Something is missing… I just need to find out what is missing…” The detective was saying to himself.
“Perhaps, I should add detective that we saw fragments of soap in his pubic area, indicating that he was either having a shower, or just had a shower when he died.” The doctor chipped in.
“Bingo! That’s it! That was what I was missing! He was ambushed as he came out of the bathroom! That explains the reason he was not far from the bathroom door. Punched him on the cheek, went behind him, choked him with the handkerchief and his arm on the neck!” The detective demonstrated carrying out the actions as he spoke.
As if on cue, James poked his head through the door.
“Sir, the tapes and guest lists are ready.”
“Thank you, James. You have been very helpful doctor.”
The detective walked with a spring in his step, glad that he was going to wrap up the killer sooner than he had expected.

Stella adjusted the glasses on her face as she watched the movement of James. He had just been ordered to get all the surveillance tapes and guest list for the evening. She had to get close to him otherwise she would not be able to do anything. She looked round. The crowd of reporters and policemen were thinning but still enough to bust her if she was careless. Patience was a principal code of the Shadow Knights but Stella could not afford the luxury of time at the moment. The only solace she had was that she had eyes on James.
“I am done here. I am going into the surveillance room to get the tapes for the detective. Make sure that the soft and hard copies of the guest list are available by the time I am through so that I can present it to the detective.” James said to a subordinate who just nodded.
Stella moved quickly but carefully making sure she did not arouse suspicion. James was walking away from her. She had to catch up with him. As she increased pace, James turned and entered the gents. She could not follow him there so she just walked past the gents and entered the ladies. She listened carefully and waited till James flushed. She came out of the ladies immediately and waiting for the moment. As James opened the door and stepped out, Stella bumped into him, her writing pad and glasses falling to the ground.
It was perfect timing.
As she bumped into him she had simultaneously slipped a bug into his jean pocket. It happened in the fraction of a second. He was none the wiser.
“Oh, I’m so sorry…” Stella began to say, bending to pick her writing pad and glasses.
“It’s okay. It is not every day one gets to bump into a pretty lady.” James said bending too and helping her pick up the glasses.
“What’s your name?” James inquired
“I’m Lola.” Stella replied.
“Hmmm. Lola. Nice to meet you.” James said stretching his hand for a shake.
“I’m sorry I don’t shake strangers.” Stella said, starting to walk away from him.
“I could give you an inside tip on what is happening you know. I know you are a reporter and all. What firm do you work for?” James called out behind her.
She turned briefly, winked seductively and continued to walk away from him.
“We’ll meet again.” James said to himself and continued to the surveillance room.
Stella had a tiny ear piece inside her right earring. It gave three distinct beeps, alerting her that James was online. She paused just by the door leading to the main hall when she saw Detective Samson heading into the room he had turned into a temporary office. When she heard the door close, she took the turn to her left and went into the Laundry room. She shut the door behind her gently and placed a sensor on the door knob. She pulled out a small tablet from underneath a pile of washed clothes, turning it on. She took off the glasses she was wearing and detached one of the temples from the hinges. It was an external storage device. Plugging it into the tablet, she connected to the bug in James’ pocket and synchronized her tablet with his computer. From what she could see he had not gone far. He was still trying to gather the tapes from the surveillance cameras outside The Haven and inside the main area of the house. From the list, he was going to treat the suite next. She quickly accessed the surveillance tapes for the suite where her brother had wiped out the victim. She watched it in fast forward till she got to the point where her brother came into the room.
He was smart though. He backed the camera all the way and only his back showed in the footage. When he finished wiping his target, he walked backwards without turning. He was careful; however she could not afford to take any risk. She edited the footage, replacing his image with that of a random simulation she just created. She was still adjusting the simulation when she saw that James was ready to get into the footage she was working on. She quickly exited the remote connection and logged off the link. She set the tablet to self-destruct and replaced the hinge of the glasses back to its original position. Satisfied with what she had done, she walked out of the Laundry room, straight to her car and zoomed off the premises.

1 0 am.
Rebekah’s ringing phone pieced the early morning quiet. She quickly silenced the call, and put the phone back on the bed stand. Looking behind her, she watched Steven’s face to see if he had been awoken by the disturbance. Steven’s face was indifferent. The phone rang again. Her commander was calling. She had to pick up. She carefully sneaked out of bed, making sure she did not wake Steven. She got to the bathroom, opened the tap and let the water run as she answered the call.
“Yes sir.”
“It took you forever to answer my call. What is the status of your target?”
“Everything is under control sir. Target performed according to standards and is currently under my paws. Any instructions?” Rebekah asked
“We need to incapacitate him for a while. There were a few grey areas he missed during his last mission. We cannot afford that again. Can you handle it?”
“Of course sir. Will get on it right away.” Rebekah finished.
Just as she spoke those final words, she felt the cold barrel of a .45 semi-automatic on her light skinned neck. She hung up and looked up at Steven, pleading with her eyes. He had the look of death in his eyes. She tried to speak but no words came out. She had been busted.
“Steve. I just…” Rebekah started but Steven interrupted her
“Shhhhh…. I know baby.” Steven said putting up a finger to his lips.
He motioned for her to get up. They went to the bedroom together and he tied her to the bed. In all this he did not utter a word. He went to his back pack and took out a syringe and a small bottle. Filling the syringe with the contents of the bottle, he sat on the bed beside her and stroked her hair with one hand, the syringe, menacing close in the other.
“What are you going to do to me?” Rebekah asked, her voice trembling.
“Baby, I had always known you were not to be trusted. I was hoping for your sake that you would not go through with betraying me. I had even begun to consider having strong affections for you. Anyways, I always had this bottle and syringe anytime I am with you, just in case I needed to use it.” Steven said and continued.
“It is an aphrodisiac. You are going to get so turned on, you will eventually begin to itch. Your body will need to ease the feelings coursing through your body, but you are tied. You’ll begin to hyperventilate. And eventually, you’ll die.”
“Please, Steven. Please. I love you.” Rebekah begged.
“I love you too Becca, but you have to die.” Steven said with a tone of finality.
He inserted the syringe and watched her as the drug began to take effect. She closed her eyes and opened them several times. He kissed her passionately, fondling her bo0bs and tweaking her nippl3s. She began to moan softly. He detached himself from her and got up from the bed. Heshook his head and walked out of the room.
“Steven, steve, please…don’t leave me please…”
