THE EVIL TEDDY Episode 13 – The Mystery Man
“Leave me alone! Leave me alone! ” Lilley screamed tumbling from her bed , Eddie had pressed her down that night , Michael and Jessica ran into her room.
“What’s wrong with you baby?” Jessica asked gathering Lilley in an embrace ,it had been six months since the attack started, Lilley was exhausted, her grades in school dropped down drastically.
Jessica could see the horror in her daughter’s eyes . “Lilley what Happened to you dear ,why were you screaming?” Jessica asked her daughter. “Lilley talk we are worried , your grades are spiraling down , we want to know what’s wrong with you .” Michael said .
“There’s a girl .” Lilley said and fell silent. “What girl ?” Jessica asked. “I no longer see my face in the mirror , she hates me.” Lilley said ,Michael couldn’t buy Lilley’s story .
“Lilley you don’t have to be jealous of the attention we give to your brother , you should be Happy you have a sibling you’ve been asking for .” Michael blurted , Jessica glared at him angrily.
“Can you stop it Michael?” Jessica warned her husband. “We will take you to the church this evening .Let’s see the pastor,you can sleep in our room tonight .” Jessica said , she pushed a pillow into Michael’s arm . “Go and find a room to sleep .” Jessica said , he collected the pillow and stomped out of the room .
Lilley had lost her joy , she had never experienced a thing like that before , she was afraid anywhere she went , she was in bathroom taking her bath in the bathtub, when Camila appeared , she had attempted to drawn her , she pushed her into that deep soapy water , Lilley struggled to get out of the water , when she did she couldn’t find anyone around , she had drank several gallons of soapy water.
She slept soundly the rest of the night with her mother’s arms around her . The next morning she went to Eddie’s cot , he was sleeping soundly, Lilley went to her room to take her bath.
While inside her bathroom , she heard a movement in bedroom, her door creaked open . “Mum is that you ?” Lilley yelled ,the room was silent , Lilley thought it was her imagination.
Eddie walked into the bedroom , the giant teddy glared at the nine months old baby sleeping inside his cot, Eddie fumed, he put his arm on the baby , and began to choke life out of the baby , it opened it’s little mouth and began to cry , Michael was sitting in the living room, with an earphone plugged into his ear, he was listening to a podcast.
Jessica heard her son’s cry , on her way upstairs she heard a loud bang of the door , she heard a soft feet running away, and her baby went silent, she feared for the worst , she opened the door to the master bedroom , Edward was in his cot , glaring at the rooftop with tears in his eyes .
The baby was so happy to see his mother , she picked him up , he refused to be put down , Jessica who didn’t know how to back her kids in the African way , had to learn that morning, she wondered who was making baby Edward cry . She entered Lilley’s room , she was still drying water from her hair .
“Lilley did you go to the masters bedroom ?” Jessica asked, Lilley shook her head .”I’m just leaving the bathroom.” Lilley said . “Is there an issue mum?” Lilley asked .
“No there’s not please breakfast is ready , go downstairs , we are running late for the service.” Jessica said before going back to the kitchen .
Lilley wore a white gown , with a white sandals, she went to dinning room , Jessica had fixed egg and tomatoes sauce and yam for breakfast, with a jug of tea and loaf of bread on a tray . Jessica knew Lilley was a food picker, Yam wasn’t on her menu of favorite meals . Michael was already on the table eating when Lilley got there.
“Good morning daddy.” Lilley greeted Michael, she took a seat opposite him , across the table , He raised his face to stare at his daughter, he nodded and mumbled a reply ,before returning his attention to the pad in front of him ,he was making a video call to his manager at the car dealership.
Lilley had dished out a plate of white yam, with some egg and tomatoes sauce, but she found it hard to eat from the plate ,whenever she tried to deep her fork held yam into the plate , it suddenly moved away ,she sat staring at the plate , it scraped the surface the dinning table and sat just in front of her , she tried to deep her forked knife , the plate sped away ,it happened the third time, Michael was hearing the loud sound .
“Lilley can you stop playing with your plate ? I am having an important conversation with the manager at the office .” He cried . “But dad it’s not me! the plate is moving itself!” Lilley said a little angry , Michael glared at her angrily, he got up and grabbed the plate of yam that was sitting at the other end of the table , and passed it to Lilley. “Now eat let me see the so called ghost move the Plate!” He yelled,Lilley refused to touch the food,she was just fumbling with spoon glaring angrily at her plate.
“Lilley is anything wrong ? why are you not eating?” Jessica asked as she settled on her sit beside her husband’s . Lilley poured the cup of hot tea in cup , she was about to pick the cup from the table , the glass of hot tea,flew up and s spilled all over her face , , she screamed in horror .Jessica almost dropped Edward to go to Lilley.
“Baby what happened?” Jessica asked Lilley,she was speechless, she didn’t know what to say .
Michael dropped his pad and looked at his daughter, he shook his head at her melodramatic display, he went back to his pad .
Jessica took Lilley to the kitchen and washed her face with cold water , she had to change her clothes. They arrived at the church for the miracle the church was already filled with worshipers who were singing and dancing .
The pastor came up , his sermon was so powerful, after the final prayer the pastor asked those who wanted to see him to wait behind, they were over sixty , it was around six P.M when they got their chance to see the pastor .
“How are you Lilley?” The pastor said taking Lilley’s frail hands into his . “Am fine sir .” Lilley said unable to look at the pastors face .
“Mr and Mrs Abbey your child is under the possession by an evil spirit ,it wants to kill your daughter, you have to be prayerful , the devil came to kill and destroy .” The pastor said after listening to Jessica narrate her daughter’s ordeal , Michael was shifting on his sit , he wondered why the ghost and spirits never acted when he was around .
“Brother Michael you shouldn’t be in doubt,I sense doubt in you,see the number of your workers that died in just a year ,they keep resigning why can’t you ask yourself about what’s responsible. ” The young pastor who was wearing a creamy suit said . “You’re the father of that house,you should stand in the gap.” He said , Michael nodded .
He prayed for Lilley and told her parents that the spirit wouldn’t disturb Lilley anymore , they went home things became normal for over six months . Lilley had forgotten about Eddie ,she Was focused on being an elder sister.
Eddie was about one year six months old , he wandered into Lilley’s room and tore open the nylon were Eddie was tied inside , the scream that left his mouth , Lilley and upstairs, she met her mother who had just left the bathroom in her bathrobe, she was was heading straight for Lilley’s room where Edward’s voice had come from , they met Eddie running out of Lilley’s room as if he had just seen the devil, Jessica picked up the terrified boy , they met all her toys on the ground .
“Why were you screaming Edward?” Jessica said , Eddie stared at the teddy bear and grabbed his mother, he refused to speak ,and wouldn’t make further eyes contact with the Teddy . “Seems he’s scared of Eddie, it’s his first time of seeing him .” Lilley said with a smile on her face .
“Mum I don’t need this toys anymore , I think I’ve outgrown them.” Lilley said .”I think we should give them away , I no longer need them .” Lilley said , Jessica thought about the idea .
“I’ll talk to your dad .” Jessica said . That night Lilley was in bed , when she thought she saw Eddie walk,she jumped from the bed and turned on the light . Eddie was still in the nylon bag .
“You think you can use me , and dump me ?” she heard a deep male voice say, she jumped from the bed and sat up, she turned on the light , there Was no one in her room , she loosen the nylon and brought Eddie out , she breathed a sigh of release, when she saw the doll was there.
She put it in the shelf . “I am going to kill you , and kill your mother , I’ll kill your brother , am the only Eddie, I choose you , you cannot use me and dump me ! I was Eddie, because you now have brother, your parents called him Edward! No other name to call him?” Eddie said ,as his eyes turned red , Lilley dumped the big doll on the ground and ran out of the screaming out her lung .
“What is it Lilley ? why can’t you let me rest!’ Michael screamed when he met Lilley on the corridor,her scream had woken him up from his deep sleep , his head felt like exploding, it was throbbing with pains and aches .
“Stop shouting at her Michael what has come over you ? you heard your child screaming all you cared about is your sleep!” Jessica hissed . “Lilley what’s it ?” Jessica asked Lilley gently ,she first looked at her dad , then at her mum .
“Mummy Eddie is angry .” Jessica was thrown off balance , her toddler son was bed sleeping. “How can Eddie be angry ?” Jessica asked still confused .”He’s sleeping in bed .” Jessica said ,Michael was obviously confused too ,but he had come to know his daughter Lilley for being a controversial liar ,he just wanted to watch her play the victim.
“No Mum not Eddie… I mean this Eddie…” Lilley said , pointing to her room,her parents went into the room , Eddie was in the nylon .
“Oh Jessica I can’t take this anymore,tomorrow morning we’re going to take this girl to go and see the psychiatrist! You’ve been supporting her craziness,how can a Teddy bear talk to you Lilley!” Michael yelled throwing his arms in the air .
“No! No! Mummy I don’t want to see a psychiatrist!” Lilley cried , weeping as though the hospital is a slaughter house . Jessica embraced her . “Mum I won’t go to the hospital,am not crazy mommy .” Liey said hugging her mother tight.
“Tomorrow morning we are going to the Psychiatrist! Because you told your mom you no longer want the teddy yesterday,today you made an excuse to get it out of the house . Just go to your room and sleep now,I don’t want to hear another noise from you!” He yelled , Lilley trembled and went back to her room sobbing, Jessica prayed with,and stayed with her till it was almost morning, when she left Eddie began to laugh .
“You cannot dump me Lilley , your mother doesn’t believe you ,your dad is taking you to a mental facility tomorrow,you are not Okay , you’re mad.”It laughed in a masculine voice ,Lilley covered her head with a pillow , too mute out the curses and profanity Eddie dished at her .
