So, This is Love? Episode 19 – Judith Onyoyibo
After the whole party, I was mandated to go home with Stephen and his family. But since our wedding was in two days time, it was put on hold.
Although Stephen and I both slept in a hotel together.
Nah!!! Contrary to what you are thinking, we didn’t do anything. Not even a kiss.
We only gisted about everything that transpired the whole day. I also counted the money that we were sprayed.
“Babes, come and join me na”. I urged him.
“Enjoy”. He said and covered himself properly with the duvet.
“Really?”. I asked feigning annoyance.
“Yes!!”. He said inaudibly.
I stood up and climbed unto the bed.
I playfully pulled the duvet away from his body.
“Babes stop na… I want to sleep”. He said child likely without even trying to tussle to get the duvet back.
I dumped the duvet on him. “Don’t worry, I will build a mansion with this money”. I said and continued counting the money.
He didn’t say anything. I knew he was already deep asleep. I was still counting money when I fell asleep on the floor.
Miraculously, I woke up in the morning on the bed and was properly covered with a duvet.
“Good morning my Angel”. My husband said. He was carrying a tray of food on his hands.
He dropped the tray on the side table.
“Good morning”. I murmured.
“How was your first night as a married woman?”. He asked smiling.
“It was fantastic”. I blushed.
“How did I even end up in the bed?”. I questioned.
My husband started laughing.
“I will always be by your side to love and protect you”. He said and planted a kiss on my forehead.
He carefully unwrapped the bowls of food.
“Why didn’t you just allow room service serve us breakfast?”. I asked.
“I wanted to be the first to serve you your first meal as a married woman”. He boasted.
I started laughing.
“I can see this marriage thing is sweeting you”. I teased.
“Go and brush your teeth let’s eat jor”. He said.
“Yes my king”. I lazily stood and went into the bathroom to freshen up.
We ate breakfast and both went out to prepare for our wedding which was to take place the next day.
I didn’t return back to the hotel because I had a bridal showers with some of my childhood friends. They actually surprised me with the bridal showers. Although it wasn’t as fun as that of other younger brides but it was indeed memorable.
I looked dazzling in my wedding gown. The gown hugged all the curves in my body. The diamond stones that was scattered all over the gown further accentuated its beauty.
The make up artist did justice to my face.
“Is this truly my face?”. I screamed in excitement.
My parents came to pray with me before we headed to the church.
The choir sang beautifully while the whole congregation stood as my father walked me down the aisle.
I was overwhelmed by the crowd in the church. I wasn’t expecting that population knowing how Nigerians rarely witness church weddings but would rather stay back at home till it’s time for reception.
Stephen was all smiles in his tuxedo as I walked graciously to his side.
My father left me at the alter and joined the rest of the congregation.
“Oh my goodness! You look so beautiful Cecilia”. My husband gushed.
I smiled sheepishly.
“You too”. I said.
The rest of the wedding rites were carried out.
Holding a golden ring on his right hand and lifting my left hand with his other hand, he repeated these words after the officiating minister;
“Take this ring as a sign of my love. To love and hold, in sickness and in health. Till death do us part…”.
Stephen was supposed to slid the ring on my finger whilst invoking the trinity thus; ” In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy spirit” but he insisted on adding his own vows.
He went further by saying;
“I give you this ring as a symbol of my love for you. Let it always remind you that I am always by your side, even when you snore and fart..”
The whole church burst into laughter. I couldn’t help but giggle like a toddler.
He continued; “With this ring, I marry you and bind my life to yours. It is a symbol of my eternal love, my everlasting friendship and the promise of all my tomorrows. May this ring bind us together forever”.
He slid the ring into my fingers beginning from my thumb till he finally slid it on my fourth finger whilst invoking the Blessed Trinity.
It was followed by a thunderous applause by the congregation.
I repeated same words as directed by the minister and slid the ring on his finger.
The congregation clapped and screamed as well.
“I now pronounce you both as husband and wife”. The minister declared.
The congregation went wild.
“You may kiss your Bride”. The minister ordered.
I let out a wry laughter.
Stephen gently held my face with both hands and locked his lips with mine.
“Yasss!!! Our first kiss”. I celebrated within.
This was also followed by a round of applause.
The service was concluded and we all proceeded to the reception’s venue.
Sandra and Lisa surprised me with a washing machine as my wedding gift.
“I know you hate washing clothes. We don’t want your husband to send you packing because of it”. Sandra teased.
Seeing them both in my occasion really made my day.
With the different gifts that was presented to us, one would think we were about opening a supermarket. Stephen is so loved by his friends, colleagues, family. Infact byeveryone close to him.
Towards the end of the reception, my heart began to skip for some weird reasons.
“The deal day is finally here”.
After the reception, Stephen drove me to a serviced apartment he booked.
My heart was beating so fast.
Stephen was in the living room making sure everything was good when I rushed into the bedroom and quickly undressed myself.
I dashed into the bathroom.
I stood under the steam of hot water. I put my hands against the tiled wall and let the water pound my chest.
When I was done freshing up, I changed into a night gown my mom packed for me.
Stephen joined me in the bedroom with a bowl of rice. We ate quietly.
He finished eating before me.
He went into the bathroom and got freshened up.
He noticed my unusual quietness.
“Babe what’s wrong?”. He asked.
“I feel filthy”. I said.
“Gosh! Don’t say that”.
“I regret my pàst. I can’t give you what other girls gave their husbands on their wedding night. I feel wasted and usèléss”. I lamented.
He came and sat close to me. He wrapped me to himself with his arms.
“I married you because I love you. I don’t love you because i think you are perfect. I love you because even in your imperfections, you are amazing”.
“Are you sure?”. I asked.
He raised my head up. He looked me in the eyes for a while before locking his lips with mine. He kissed me in the way he has always longed to kiss me for years.
My heart melted.
I thought he would proceed further but he stopped halfway.
let’s use this night to commit our marriage into the hands of God.
That was how we ended up praying for hours.
We both fell asleep after the prayers.
The next morning, we woke up around 11:00am. We were both exhausted.
We ate and started calling each of our guests to appreciate them for celebrating with us.
That was another tedious exercise.
By the time we were done, it was already evening.
My husband insisted we eat out.
I got dressed and we went on a fancy date. We had lots of fun and went back to the serviced apartment.
Emotions were high that night. I wanted my husband badly but didn’t want to make the first move. I was already getting worried that he was purposely avoiding intimacy with me.
“Can I undress you?”. He asked.
I froze. It came as a surprise to me.
“Sure”. I murmured under my breath.
He carefully unzipped my gown and pulled it to the ground.
He wasn’t like the rest guys I had gotten intimate with. He treated my body with utmost care as though I was an egg.
I stood in front of him in my white lingerie.
He carefully unhooked my bra and removed it.
My brèast dangled in front of him.
He pulled down my pant.
I stood in front of my husband completely naked.
“Your body is so beautiful”. He complimented.
I blushed.
He stared at my body thoroughly but also with so much reverence at the same time.
“It’s your turn to undress me”. He said.
I was so shy. I haven’t undressed a man before. They always undressed themselves.
I carefully undressed him till he stood naked in front of me.
Oh my goodness! His body was a piece of art. His body is so manly. I noticed his six packs and my heart froze. I never thought christian brothers had packs.
“Your body is amazing my husband”. I said seductively.
He carried me gently and placed me on the bed.
I have never felt so nervous and scared of sèx like I did that night.
“I don’t have any experience about sèx but I promise to try my best”. my husband said.
“Don’t tell me you are a virgin?”. I asked with my mouth agape.
“Shhhhii 🤫”. He hushed me. I think he was embarrassed.
I felt more guilty for not being a virgin and the years I spent prôstitutîng.
“I am sorry”. I apologized tearily.
“You have done nothing to be sorry about”. He said.
He kissed me passionately before I could say anything else.
I moved under his touch like a kitten waiting to be stroked.
Heat spread and sank all over my body.
I surrendered myself to my husband.
We had our first sèx that night and it was the best I have ever had.
