So, This is Love? Episode 15 – Judith Onyoyibo
When I entered into Mike’s apartment, I was blown away. The house was giving. It was a fully detached duplex. Everything in the house exudes luxury and class.
“This would’ve been mine”. I thought in my mind but quickly brushed the thought off.
“Welcome to my humble abode”. Mike said with his hands wide open.
“Nice apartment”. I said nodding my head with my eyes still fixated in the wonderful aesthetics of the house.
“What should I offer you?”. Mike asked. He was smiling from cheek to cheek.
“I’m good with just water”. I said.
“Nahh! You can’t come to my house and have just water. I know what to offer you”. He said still smiling and dashed into the kitchen.
He came back with a bottle of champagne and two wine glasses.
He placed the wine glasses on the table. Carefully, he popped the champagne. It made a very loud noise when it popped.
We both started laughing.
He poured some champagne on both glasses. He handed one of the glasses to me while he retained the other glass.
He sat on the couch adjacent to mine.
He gulped the champagne down his throat while he made some dramatic sounds as a sign that he was having a blast.
I couldn’t help but laugh.
Reluctantly, I gulped the champagne down my throat. Indeed, it tasted heavenly.
“Wow! This is so good”. I complimented.
“I know you’d like it”. He said.
We drank silently for a while.
“The room is too quiet, let me play some songs”. Mike said.
He put on the speakers and started playing a song.
After the first song finished playing, the next song that played was “thinking out loud” by Ed Sheeran. It was our favorite song when we were still dating.
I became nostalgic. The song brought out long buried memories.
“Darling, I will be loving you till we’re seventy ee”
“I’m thinking about how people fall in love in mysterious ways…” 🎶🎶
The song kept playing.
Tears welled up in my eyes.
“We aren’t even seventy yet and we’re no longer in love”. I teased. I stylishly dabbed my eyes while I laughed. I didn’t want Mike to see me cry.
Mike moved to my couch and sat close to me.
His gaze was fixed on me which made my heart to flicker.
He grabbed my both hands.
My pulse quickened. I drew a very deep breath.
“I still love you and will always do”. Mike said.
I retrieved my hands from his grip angrily.
“Oh! Please stop lying”. I said without meeting his eyes.
“I’m dead serious babes”. He swore.
I stood up to leave. “I think I need to go now”. I said.
He spun me around, hands firm on my waist.
I drew in a deep breath. I moved under his touch like a kitten waiting to be stroked.
He moved his mouth close to my ears and whispered;
“My heart still yearns for you. You still have a strong hold over me. Even now, all I want to do is to feel the warmth of your body against mine”.
I moaned softly.
“Mike please stop”. It sounded more or less an approval than a plea.
He grabbed me by my waist violently to himself. My whole body melted at his touch.
He grabbed my mouth with his right hand and placed his on it.
Heat spread and sank all over my body.
“Flee Janet! You’ve moved past this stage”. A voice warned.
He unbottoned and yanked off his trousers. His expression almost pleading.
“Flee my child. Don’t succumbed to your flesh “. The voice spoke again.
He raised my gown up. I tried to protest but I wasn’t convincing enough.
He successfully pulled off my gown. I stood in front of him with just my bra and undies on.
“You look so beautiful”. He said lustfully.
My breathing heightened.
He turned me around and smacked my butts. He reached out for my bra hook.
He was unhooking my bra when my phone started ringing.
The lyrics of my ringing tone cut through my heart.
..I am your own, I am your own oo. Till day you’ll come, Jesus I am your own”. 🎶🎵
I quickly flee from Mike.
“I shouldn’t be doing this”. I said with tears.
I was so ashamed of myself. I quickly grabbed my gown from the floor.
“Baby please don’t go”. Mike pleaded as he approached me.
My phone had already stopped ringing.
“Don’t you dare come close to me”. I screamed as loud as my voice could be.
I quickly wore my gown.
My phone started ringing again.
I reached out for my bag.
“Don’t you ever dare call my line again”. I said and ran out of the house.
My legs began to shake. I felt so dirty and stupid.
I broke into tears.
People stared at me with pity as I walked past them.
My phone started ringing again. I brought it out of my bag. It was Stephen calling.
I answered the call.
“Are you okay? I have been trying to reach you”. He asked with so much concern.
I broke into tears.
“Oh my goodness! Where are you?”. He asked.
“I’m worthless Steve. I am so stupid”. I said in tears.
“Please just tell me where you are. I dropped by your house and you weren’t there”. Stephen urged.
“I’m at Amen’s Estate”. I said.
“Wow! That’s so far. Just look for a cool place to stay, I’m coming to pick you”. He said.
“No! Don’t worry, I can’t find my way home”. I insisted.
“Please wait for me. It’s a bit cloudy and it may start raining any moment from now. I don’t want you drenched by rain”. He pleaded.
“Trust me, I’m good. Just wait for me at your place. I’ve already booked a ride. I will join you shortly”. I pleaded.
He had no choice but to let me have my way.
My Uber came and he drove me down to Stephen’s apartment. It was a 3hrs journey.
I knocked at his door.
Immediately he opened the door, he gave me a long hug.
“Are you okay? I haven’t been at peace”. He said.
I walked into his house and sat on his couch.
“I am so stupid Steve”. I said and started crying.
“Please don’t call yourself that. You are not stupid”.
“I was never a bad girl. I wasn’t really the churchy type but at least, I wasn’t really wayward and loose. Everything went south when my boyfriend of 8yrs dumped me for another girl”. I broke into tears again.
He patted my shoulder gently.
“I begged him not to leave me but he left me. He married the girl he met in less than a year. I contemplated suicide twice. The first time, I slit my wrist”. I raised my left hand and showed him the scar on my wrist.
“My family rescued me. On the second attempt, I ran into a major road hopping to get smashed into pieces by a trailer or a car but got rescued by a stranger…”.
“Wait! wait! wait!”. Stephen cut me short.
“Don’t tell me you were the same girl I rescued at Jakpa junction?”. He asked.
“Were you the good Samaritan?”. I asked with my mouth agape.
He pulled me into himself and gave me a very tight hug.
“Fate brought us together again”. He said.
Surprise registered all over my face.
“This world is really small”. I said when he finally let go off me.
“I don’t think I can wait any longer… Please marry me”. He dropped the bombshell.
I froze in where I was seated.
“I know this is the most unexpected proposal in the history of all unexpected proposals but please be my wife “. He said. This time, he knelt with one knee.
“I am not worthy to be your woman… You deserve better Stephen “. I said tearily.
“I have never met a more suitable bride Ese”. He said pleadingly.
“You don’t know me Stephen. I have done so many abominable things. My body count is above 200. I can’t punish you please “. I pleaded with tears.
“Who am I to judge you by your sins? I don’t care about your past. All I see is your present and our future together “. He said lovingly.
I broke into tears.
“I almost slept with my ex today. You see, I am not to be trusted”. I said without meeting his eyes.
“If the Lord should mark our guilts, who could stand? We’re all trying our best in this journey of salvation. I can’t judge you and I will never judge you. Just let me love you properly in the way the Lord God destined you to be loved. Please!”. He pleaded.
I was amazed by the manner of love he has for me. A love so strong that nothing could sway it.
“Yes! I will marry you”. I said with tears.
Excitedly, he raised me up and swung me in the air.
To be continued.
