A PLACE OF TERROR Episode 7 – Blessing-Enejo Abrahams Elleywrites

…I ran as fast as my legs could carry straight to the cemetery.

When I got there, it took me another few seconds to finally go in to see Eniola’s grave. I was so sc@red to my bones visiting the cemetery at such hours. I began to shiver counting the graves till I counted up to the 77th grave, then I managed to call her name “Eniola!”. She appeared before me with her gaze fixed on the air all of a sudden.

I was trembl!ng that I could not even raise my head to look at her.

“You called, speak” she said.

“Ermmm…please help! I have no relatives around here and I know no one. I believe you’re the only one that can help me at this point” I said in between sobs looking around.

“What tr0ubles you?” she questioned.

“All the people I came here with the last time are all gone. I was att@cked with the only one left a while ago and I don’t even know if he’s still al!ve” I said wiping a tear with the back of my hand.

“So, what do you want ?” She asked.

“Please, help me ” I pleaded.

“I warned you never to stay out till 7 pm, but you went with the man out of your house that late”

“Yes, … I’m … I’m sorry ma. Remaining in that house after seeing what I saw could even make me go ins@ne. So we thought that going with our coordinator to his house was going be safer, not knowing that he deceived us.”

“You need to remain here in this town till you’re done with whatever you came here for.” she said

“What? To remain here? I can’t remain here. You want me to d!e like the others?” I asked.

“As long as you keep to my warnings, nothing will happen to you ” she said.

“To still stay back here? Oh, I’m finished” I cried out with my hands on my head.

“There’s no way out, till you’re done” she reminded.

“But, who really are you? Are you one of their goddesses here?” I managed to ask.

“I am not a goddess, neither am I a priestess. I am from the lineage of Olodumare, we have powers to save and set whoever comes to us in distress free. My forefathers were never partakers of ev!l, and so was I. We were respected by few for always standing by the truth, but the ones with hearts full of ev!l never saw anything good in us, so, they had some of us k!lled.

“But, can you just help me so I can return home, please ?” I queried.

“Something in me tells me you can. Please I beg of you. Staying back in this place will be too traumat!c for me. Even if I don’t get k!lled, the thought of my friends alone can str@ngle life out of me ma. Please help me go back home ” I said and then went on my knees.

“Rise” She said.

“I will help you, but, what you seek is a very very difficult one. If you can do it, then you will find your way home. I’m not supposed to even tell you this cos it’s a top secret here in the village. The kind of help I was going to render you was for you to heed my warnings till you finish your program. But as it is, you need to go back” she added.

“I will do anything! Yes, I will!!” I let out.

“You will walk n@ked round the village for 7 days, no food, no water. But cola nuts and bitter cola.” she said.

“Walking n@ked round the village is not a big deal. But 7 days without food or water? So throughout those 7 days I’ll only eat cola nuts and bitter cola?” I asked with my eyes popped open.

She nodded.

“From the very first day you will begin, they will make different plots to have you k!lled cos they will all be wondering who let the secret out. But, they will not succeed only if you do not eat any other thing except those things I mentioned”

“Yes ma, I will. Please when do I begin?” I queried.

“Whenever you want” she said.

“I’ll begin as soon as it is dawn. I need to go back home alive to my people ” I said, dropping a tear.

“You must be very very careful cos this is a very difficult task. On the 7 th day, the exit route will be revealed to you. As soon as you see it, move” she said.

“Ok, ok,” I said nodding my head sporadically.

“You may go now” she said.

“Please, I have nowhere to go to. Besides, it’s very late. Can I stay here with you ?” I begged.

She paused for a few seconds.

“Ok ” she said.

“Sit on the grave” she added.

“Ma?” I questioned to be sure of what I heard.

“Sit, on my grave” she said pointing towards it”

As soon as I sat, I saw all kinds of ghosts standing on their graves. Some would walk to and fro, return to their graves, and then either lie or sit on it but none came close to me. My spirit almost left me seeing all of this. I sat there trembl!ng to the extent that my teeth began to even slam each other.

A few hours later, it was already dawn but still a bit dark. Some ghosts have returned to wherever they came from while some were still lying on their graves. Eniola too stood by me till dawn.

“You can go now” she said startling me.

I jerked all of a sudden, looked around, and then took to my heels out of there. I entered a pathway and saw an image before me all of a sudden. I paused and my legs became so numb that I couldn’t feel them.

“Victor, please help me,” the image said and began to approach me.

My heart almost popped out of my chest. I looked closely and lo and behold, it was Osas. He came closer and there he was without both hands and with bl00d dr!pping out of his nose

“Osas!!!” I screamed.

“You need to get out of this place. Please, find my mother and tell her that I tried but I no fit make am (I couldn’t make it)” he managed to say and then fell before me.

“Osas!” I screamed his name again but he had already given up the ghost.

I ran from there immediately and headed straight to the market, it was getting brighter. I lurked around till people started to show up in the market and as soon as I sighted the first cola nut and bitter cola seller, I brought out some money from my pocket and paid for as much as the money with me could buy…
