A PLACE OF TERROR Episode 4 – Blessing-Enejo Abrahams Elleywrites
We took to our heels immediately at the sight of her but stopped all of a sudden as soon as we heard what seemed like the sound of thunder.
“Stop!!! How dare you? You summoned me and then you run away? ” she yelled at the top of her voice.
Then, we all paused all of a sudden. I tried raising my legs all to no avail.
“Come!” she ordered and we all turned as soon as she spoke and stood before her.
I had never been so terrified all my life. I was visibly shaking as my lower and upper teeth kept slamming each other.
Dare? He leaned his head gently on my shoulder and forgot it there but I was too terrified to even notice anything.
“Why did you summon me?” The ghost, Eniola queried with her gaze still fixed before her into the air.
None of us could utter even a word out of fear. We all stood there shivering while Okpa’s stood there covering his face with his hands.
All of a sudden, she turned swiftly to us, and then looked at me. I didn’t even know when I peed in my shorts immediately, I turned my face aside but her eyes were still on me.
“Lord please, mercy Lord” I whispered as my heart almost popped out of my chest.
“If you had wasted five more minutes before coming here, you would have d!ed next” she said staring at me.
As soon as I heard that my eyeballs moved itself from the position where I had kept it to take a look at her expressionless face but I immediately rolled it back to it’s formal position.

Osas? He stood there shivering with all his fingers stuck in his mouth while all the strand of hairs on his head stood upright like one who had been electrocuted.
I noticed a heavy weight on my right shoulder so I moved my shoulder a bit and Dare landed on the ground revealing a birthmark on his lap that looked like a tiny cross, he had passed out leaning his head on my shoulder.
“Why did you people summon me.” she thundered.
“Ermm… Aunty, the …thing is, erm…” Osas stuttered.
“Speak, now!” she r@ged.
Osas looked at me but I pretended not to hear the question, then he opened his mouth again.
“Ermmm..aunty, please ma we are corp members. Ermmm…the thing is, we want to go back home. Yes, we no longer want to continue but… we’ve been roaming everywhere since till we were finally told that there’s no exit route. That we should come to you for help” Osas managed to say.
“Ekpo! The land of no return for strangers” she said.
“But…only the footprint of Olodumare can make you survive here” she added.
Osas turned and looked at me but I swiftly turned and looked away.
“I shall lead you there. But, it’s a must you stay and finish whatever it is you came here for”
As soon as I heard that, I turned to her.
“A… A must? ” I asked stuttering.
“Yes, a must! You will not be shown the way out after locating the footprint, but it will shield you from danger for as long as you all stay here. You shall become touch nots to them all and will trample upon snakes and scorpions and none will harm you”
“Ah… I really want to go home” Osas let out bursting into tears.
“Not now!” Eniola exclaimed.
She stepped down from her grave backing us.
“Follow me!” she said.
We all turned and looked at each other still standing, then Okpa’s followed first, then Osas. I was going to follow when I suddenly remembered that Dare was still lying on the ground beside another grave. I kicked him multiple times and then he jerked up and began to look around.
“Let’s go!” I yelled and took few steps forward.
I looked back and Dare was still there looking around. I picked up a stone and threw it at him, that act was what cleared his eyes.
“Jesus!” he exclaimed immediately he saw himself beside a grave.
“What am I doing beside a grave?! Mummyyy!!” he screamed and then got up and ran after me and held my hand again in a very tight grip.
We walked for almost an hour in a very thick forest and finally arrived somewhere in the middle of the forest.
“Look, that is the footprint over there. Olodumare himself had left it there so it could shield whoever is in distress.
We looked the direction where she had pointed and then we saw a very wide space on the ground.
“Go there and put each of your foot inside the space” she said.
“But after you must have done so, wherever you go here in Ekpo town make sure you return to your houses before 7pm, and do not tell this to anyone” she added.
“But, please ma, who is or was this Olodumare?” I asked.
She turned and looked at me.
“Olodumare created Ekpo land himself years ago . But the people dwelling in it all have minds full of evil. So he relocated to where he came from many years ago and left his footprint here for anyone who would need his help.”
“And… You?” Okpa’s finally voiced out.
“I am Eniola” She said looking around.
“I was Olodumare’s great grandchild. I traveled to the city and there and then, my life changed. It was then I knew about God and Jesus his son. Got married there in the city and after some years I finally decided to bring my husband home. But, the following day very early in the morning, he came out to preach about Christ but Ekpo people mur-dered him in cold bl00d. Till now he still goes about preaching the gospel of Christ but, as a ghost”
We turned and looked at each other as soon as we heard that.
Then one after the other, we put our footprints into the space.
She led us back into the town and asked us to return home.
“I can’t go back to that same lodge o. I’m just tired of this whole thing. Is this a movie or a nightmare?” Okpa’s said pinching himself.
“Go back to that same lodge, someone is already there waiting for you all” she said and then turned back, and started to walk away with hands glued to her. All of a sudden, we heard “Eniola!!!”. It was so loud that we took to our heels as soon as we heard it.
We got to the front of the lodge and met all our things outside with the state coordinator standing by them.
“Where have you guys been?” he questioned as soon as he saw us.
“I’m so sorry about what happened to one of you. I have gotten a more comfortable place for you to stay” he added.
“We picked our bags one after the other and then followed him, But Dare on sighting a pathway on our way he paused”
“Look, that’s the route out of here. We had come in through that route” he said.
“No please, that isn’t it.” The state coordinator said.
“It is, I know what I’m saying. I’m out of here. God forbid I pass another night here” He said again and left taking the route.
I almost went with him but had to advise myself. The state coordinator took us to another house and we were given two rooms to stay.
The first and the second night we slept peacefully, but I started to regret why I didn’t follow Dare.
The state coordinators wife had been bringing food to us but on this day we decided to go to a restaurant to get food. We were served with big chunks of meat. I wanted to take a bite from one of the piece of meat when I saw this mark that looked like the birthmark on Dare’s lap on it…
