SUSAN’S REVENGE Episode 1 – Ayo Omolayo

I looked around as I was waiting for my turn for the interview. How my friend ended up being stupid I don’t understand.

Chioma was my high school bestie. We had everything in common. Why did Chioma allow her Boss to end things between the two of us?

I remembered how I warned Chioma about this guy, but she ignored all my warnings. I don’t like bringing up such painful memories, but I’ll tell all that happened.

Chioma was a school teacher just like me. She saw better opportunities at Queen’s international high school and left where we were both working for her so called greener pasture.

We were both roommates and were paid 25 thousand at the high school where we worked. We had to save a large amount of our income to pay the rent for our one room apartment, which was 70k.

I didn’t want her to leave but the pay was juicy, 50k. One hardly got such opportunities to work in such standard school. Queens international high school, needed a French teacher and that’s where she fitted in.

She had the working experience and the other qualifications they needed. It was a chance of a better life for both of us.

She went for the interview and glory be to God, it was successful. The young man incharge congratulated her and told her that she got the job.

I was surprised to find such a young man in his late twenties as the proprietor of the school. But Chioma revealed to me that it was passed on to him by his deceased father. Being the only son, Mr George Oluwagbade took over the property and runned the affairs of the school.

I was happy for her, but sad we no longer got to see each other often, like we did before. Anyway, the fat salary consoled me. We could buy new dresses, cook expensive meals, pay the rent with easy and lots more.

Chioma was so generous. Infact she was like a mother to me, being 6 years older than me. We both enjoyed ourselves untill the day Satan came for us.

Chioma didn’t come back with salary anymore. Why? Her boss had stopped her salary for no other reason but to have his way with her.

What the Nonsense? I was mad! Chioma! Quit that school we don’t need his filty money anymore! You never told me he had been making advances towards you?

“That’s why I didn’t want to tell you. I know you would tell me to quit the job immediately”, she answered, looking sad.

“Of course I will tell you the quit the job. Why wouldn’t you want to quit it? That George or whoever he calls himself, is a stupid brat! So he’s using his father’s wealth to oppress the people he’s supposed to help? Is that how he oppresses all the ladies over there?” I asked, obviously irritated.

“Susu! Calm down! You can be as angry as Jemima the mother hen, when it comes to issues like this”, she said smiling and tried to grab my waist.

“Stop it!” I beat her hands off.

“We ought to be serious right now. I am not even happy with you for keeping such information from me”, I said frowning.

“Don’t worry! I believe he’ll come back to his senses. I’ll beg him and make him understand that as a Christian, I cannot sell him my body”.

“Chioma! I feel like slapping you right now!”

Her eyes widened in shock.

“Why?”

“Just look at the trash coming out of your mouth? Beg a sinner? Chioma! A princess begging a pauper? Have you forgotten so soon who you are?”

She sighed and nod in affirmation.

“Don’t tell me you would make him feel high. Please sir! Please sir! Pay me! I cannot do it sir! I’m a Christian sir! Try and understand sir! Then he will touch your cheeks and say. ‘Oh! My beauty! Don’t cry! I love you so much!’

Then you will tell him.

‘Please sir don’t touch me like that’. Rubbish!

Look here girl! I can work things with Mr Kola. We can have you back in Cranfield in no time. Or better still, we can try some other schools.

This is a good opportunity to preach Jesus to that idiot! If at all his ears are still working”.

“Aah! Susan! You really hate this man!”

“I don’t hate him sis. I only hate the wickedness he’s upholding. Forgive my choice of words. I just wish I was the one. I would have talked some sense into his head”.

“Susan, no be mouth them dey use talk to human being oh. You know as human being stubborn?

Man sturborness pass the one of goat oh! If you no fit pray, forget am oh! Na prayer dey change man oh no be ordinary mouth oh”, Chioma started her pidgin English sermon.

I don’t know why she uses pidgin to preach, but talks normally with English. But when it comes to preaching, she codeswitches.

“I’ve heard you Mummy G.O.”, I said and I got the reaction I needed. She hated been called after that preacher who also uses pidgin English to preach on her pulpit.

“Na me you dey call Mummy G.O.?” She rose from the bed and went after me.
