LASGIDY LINKS Episode 10 by Adewrites
“Yemi, please wait” Tinuke called out
” so you insisted on going?”
She gave a pitiful mixed with sad expression.
“I am sorry, I need to leave because its very important, I am so sorry” I apologised.
She requested for my number so as to get updated about my movement, I joined the Uber driver and we zoomed off. The driver was fast enough so we got to the hospital in the next 30 minute.
I got to the reception and asked for Bukola and I was led to the ward she was but in a private room. I found my way in, cannulas was inserted into her vein, and she was sleeping.
No one was with her, I walked in gently and closed the door behind me, I sat on the chair and stared at her, I sat for almost 43minute when she opened her eyes, she stared at me as if she just saw a stranger, I guess she had a blur vision, finally she spoke up.
“Oh Yemi, its you, when did you get here?” She asked. I didn’t alter a word; i was only smiling at her.
“why are you smiling?” She asked with a corny face.
“You need to rest; I got here not quite long. What exactly are you diagnosed for?” I asked.
“I was diagnosed for typhoid fever and its very high so the doctor advised that I get admitted. Thanks for coming, i really appreciate, you shouldn’t have left the party, you should have fun” she said.
” I already had enough, I couldn’t stay further while you are here, I had to see you” I replied.
“Thanks for being nice, the doctor said that I will be discharged tomorrow evening, I already called my boss to inform him and he said i should have some rest before resuming to work, she said”.
Tinuke’s call came through.
“Hi Yemi, are you there now and how is she?”She asked.
” Yes I am and she’s doing fine”
“ok that’s good, I’ll talk to you later, bye” she dropped the call.
“Who is that? Bukola asked,
“that’s Tinuke, DFA’s daughter, we were together when I called you”
I left to get her some provisions and other things she might need, I left in the evening, went home to change my clothes and also got some other things I might need and went back to the hospital.
I slept over with her at the hospital and waited till the next evening when she was discharged and we went to her house together. That was my first time in her house. She lived in a 3 bedroom flat but in a room while two people acquired the other two rooms. They shared the rent.
She couldn’t stop thanking me for staying with her, I cooked for her and also did some house shores, I left for my house very early on Monday morning to prepare for work but made sure I got her all the necessary things she needed before leaving.
I would go to work and resume to her house to check up on her and also get her the things she need before going home. I did that for a week before she finally recovered fully.
I was sitting in my office, going through the slides of the presentation I was to make on the day’s meeting with my door shut because I didn’t want any form of distraction. I was tensed up because I had to be able to convince the house as the chairman of the committee and also the commissioner in person.
Other delegates from other ministries would also be at the meeting to witness the presentation and see if they could also buy the same idea in their respective ministries. I had to prove myself to be able to handle the project effectively and everything depends on the kind of presentation I make on that day.
Tension built up mansion in my tissues, my heart pounds hard like a pestle on the heart of the mortal, fear engulfed me.
Suddenly, Sade opened the door without knocking, I was angry and I snapped at her.
“Can’t you knock before coming in?! Don’t you see I am busy? You know I hardly shut my door and you supposed to know I am busy that’s why I shut it” I thundered at her and went back to my laptop.
She came in and shut the door behind her; she came behind me, placed her hands on my shoulders and massages the tissues.
“I know you are tensed up, I know today is important to you because this is your first presentation on this job and I know you need to be able to convince people and prove yourself to be competent to do the work. But don’t you think you are taking it too far?”
She asked, came in front of me and stared at my eyes.
“You can do it, I know you can, all you need to be is yourself, act like the chairman they made you, compose yourself and spit it out as if you are lecturing them, let go of your fear and you will make a very fine presentation”. She encouraged
Her words and lines sank into my wit and spread into my system, I was relieved of the pressure, my fear started fading away, I regained confidence.
“Thank you Sade, I am sorry I snapped at you, I am sorry”, I apologized.
“Apology accepted”. She replied with a smile.
“I came to tell you to round up on whatever you are doing and head to the venue, let them meet you there, they shouldn’t be waiting for you” she said.
I stood up and packed my laptop inside its bag and some other documents, I got my jacket and headed for the door, she drew me back and helped adjust my loosened tie, she drew me closer and gave me a soothing hug.
“You will be fine dear, go there and make me proud” she whispered into my ear.
I murmured in affirmation.
We loosened up and I looked deep into her eyes. Before I knew, her lips had already clocked into mine, it was a deep romantic kiss.
She was a good kisser….
” Go and kill it and come for your reward” she said.
” I can’t wait!” I replied.

She kissed me passionately, her lip stick stained my lips, and she fetched a tissue paper from my table and cleaned my lips with it.
“That should sustain you till the end of your presentation, go and kill it and come for something more romantic”
She expressed and left my office, I stood stagnant like a statue, I wallowed in confusion. There was no an iota of regret and shame in her as she say those words, she even walked majestically when she was leaving.
“Am I dreaming? Sade kissed me? What?…how?…. Has she been crushing on me?” Several thoughts ran through my mind.
I stepped out of my office, she gave me a wink as I head straight to the front door, I exhaled and walked toward the venue, I met the DFA on the way and we walked to the venue that was not far from the ministry.
“Thanks for honoring my invitation, I really appreciate that, he appreciated.”
” Oh! Don’t mention sir, the honour is mine sir, and I am sorry I left so early on that day, I just had to.” I said.
” Oh that’s true, how is that your friend now?”He asked.
“She’s fine now sir”
“That’s good; my wife couldn’t stop talking about you and your kind gesture. Tinuke couldn’t stop talking about how lively you were too” He said.
“I was just being me sir, you have a very lovely family sir, I hope you’ll be able to lecture me on how to have a good home before I venture into marriage” I said.
“I will be so glad to do so”, he replied with a smile.
We talked about the project too and how far we had gone on it. He gave me more clue on what to add to my presentation, what and what I should be expecting as a question from the commissioner.
We got to the venue and met few people; it was 10 minute to the beginning of the meeting.
I used that opportunity to lecture the available members of the committee in the hall and we discussed on other things too.
The PS arrived some minutes later with some other directors, other delegates from other ministries arrived too, it was already the exact time to start the meeting, the PS called on the architect to give us an opening prayer and we began the meeting.
“How far have we gone on the allocation of land and the building project, PS asked”
I stood up and explained how the initially allocated land won’t be feasible for the project and how we got to propose on using one of the abandoned old buildings.
The meeting was going as planned; it took almost an hour before the arrival of the commissioner which delayed my presentation. I was already losing the confidence I had gathered initially because of his lateness, he came in and we all stood up to show some respect, he implored us to sit and apologised for coming late.
” I am so sorry for coming late, I had to attend to more pressing issues that deals with budget and financial crisis as the commissioner for finance, but that doesn’t mean this isn’t important too” He explained.
” So where are we, I have less than an hour to spend with you, so please let’s fast forward to the presentation and make some necessary amendments and suggestions.”
The PS introduced me to the commissioner as the chairman of the committee in charge of the project, the IT person and the youngest staff amidst them;
“he will make the presentation sir. She explained.
The commissioner took a glance at me and gestured with his hand to proceed with the presentation while he was busy writing some things.
I moved forward to connect my laptop to the projector, and my phone vibrated. The vibration sent fear down my heart and the reason couldn’t be stated. I brought it out and dropped it on the floor behind the projector.
I started the presentation by introducing myself and what the project was all about. During my presentation, my focus was on the commissioner but he was not affirming to my presentation, in fact he wasn’t acting as if he was listening, this discouraged me a little, I switched my attention to the PS, but her facial expression was not inviting.
Disappointment eroded my heart as if i was just there blabbing, I felt as if no one was listening and they were all waiting for me to finish flapping my lips and leave.
Spoonerism came through my words, I was sweating profusely through my palms, tension built up in my system, I was so confused and my voice shook with the wave of the whirling wind, my voice lowered automatically.
I couldn’t find solace in my simultaneous but random thoughts.
” Am I failing?” I questioned my wit.
